Moving from Reno to Sparks was a rather easy transition except for one very tiny, almost minor, inconvenience: the food situation. SPARKS you are seriously lacking in the food varieties. With this new budget momma ain’t wastin’ her allowance on just any old chain restaurant these days. I must tell you my chubby belly was so rumbly when I saw a new INDIAN spot open on my actual route home.
I have to apologize. When I ended up eating at Haveli it was impromptu and not a planned blog dinner. I was half way through the meal, in curry heaven, when I snapped a few pics of the meal. So there isn’t a menu to post but I will link the website for you guys to look over. (You will also notice the copious amount of gluten ordered…. I was being tested for celiac at the time, and I was prescribed heaping troughs of this glorious protein. For the sake of science I of course complied).
The restaurant is a fun environment. Gold and crystal adorn every inch of brightly colored tables and chairs. There is also a call system. When you are ready to order you call the waiter over to you. At first I didn’t know if I would like the call system but it was really refreshing not being checked on all the time. We used it when we needed something and, for the most part, we were left alone to enjoy our meal.
Enjoy we did. I like to think we ate so much that evening because we had been busy moving, but in reality I think I it’s just because the food was so damn good! Butter chicken and curried peas with paneer were the two mains with the naan bread sampler and SAMOSAS!!!! The order of appetizer samosas were FOUR baked to perfection pockets of curried and fennel seasoned veg and potatoes. Amazeballs. Four was a lot I had to bring some leftovers home. The butter chicken was in a thick tomato base sauce (which I’ve never seen, I’m used to a yellow curry sauce). And the curried peas with paneer was so good I may have licked the bowl clean. I highly recommend the naan sampler. It comes with three variations of huge pieces of naan. Our rather large order came to $50, so $25 each. I thought that was beyond reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food.
I cannot wait to eat here again! The rest of the menu calls to me on every drive home! Life is short – pick up a fork- and join me, The Chubby Yogi, in some Grub, Chub, and Namaste!
