Today is the day, that many of us, wait all year for. Warm sweaters, the smell of baked pie, glorious turkey, and time well spent with friends and family. Unfortunately, not everyone will have the opportunity to have the same expierience. For some life looks very different not just on holidays, but everyday. It tugs at my heart strings that many children and youth will also know very different days today.
My dear friend and fellow yogi, Hannah, has created an organization that gives back to children and youth in our community. Urban Lotus Project brings yoga for free to the youth in our community who otherwise my not have access to it. Through this organization small moments of peace, stillness, and a sense of family and community are offered all over the Reno area weekly. If you are unfamiliar with this organization here’s a link to check them out and see the movement they are creating! http://www.urbanlotusproject.org/about.html
I am very honored to volunteer with Urban Lotus. I teach bi-monthly for them and I must say its one of my favorite hours through the month. Today is certainly a day for eating and laughing and visiting. However if you would like to start your day with a little more giving consider joining me at the above event. This hour and fifteen minute practice is more than just a moment to pause and breathe. It truly will help those in need with the gift of breath, stillness, and a sense of belonging.
