Perennial: enduring or continually reoccurring. Like the everlasting culture used to bake their bread, “Perenn” is sure to be a lasting Reno staple. I have for so long wished that our town would be home to an eatery reminiscent of my favorite European bakeries. Welcome Perenn Bakery! Today was their grand opening and you betcha I was in line. Longing for a pastry and breakfast toast that could bring me back to the streets of Paris, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, I briskly hustled over to get my first taste. There is nothing like an authentic French croissant or a Scottish toast breakfast.
Entering the store, its simple, earthy, rooted decor was like coming home. Clean lines, cool calm colors, and live plants. If they would let me move in I would. The display of fresh baked breads and treats had me in Chubby Giddy excitement. As I took my first bite I was transported back to my beloved travels.
Sampling a baklava croissant, a cookie, an egg toastie, and a ricotta toastie I made the rounds on the menu. The egg toastie was my favorite item I tried. The egg was poached to perfection and the labneh was the perfect compliment to the pickle. I cannot wait to order this item again.
I’m not a huge fan of fresh fig BUT the fig and ricotta toastie was a great pairing of sweet, savory, and fresh. The little crunch from the pistachio was mmm perfecto!
I’m not sure which words I should string together to accurately describe the experience I had with the baklava croissant. The crispy, flakey, yet chewy dough with the sweet honey pistachio filling and glaze was a mouthful of yum. And the dried rose hips crumbled on top was visually stunning.
The chewy ginger cookie was divine. I dislike when people label cookies as ‘chewy’ and they are nothing of the sort. This cookie was truly a soft and chewy cookie.
From the decor, to the name, to the goods, down to the packaging, every single detail of Perenn is well thought out, and from the taste of things, has been a labor of love. Head over to Perenn Bakery and say hello to the lovely staff and get yourself a seriously delicious treat.
Life is short- pick up a fork, and join me, the Chubby Yogi, in some Grub, Chub, and Namaste!
